On 19 November 2006, we did a 10.5 mile hike in the East Bay Hills, just east of Hayward
We began this hike at the Garin Regional Park entrance. Both Garin Regional Park and Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park, which are contiguous, were once ranches. Two families, the Meyers on the Dry Creek Pioneer side, and the Garins on the northwest side, ran the ranches continuously from the 1880's until 1979, when their ranch lands became part of the East Bay Regional Park District. We spent a few minutes at Tolman Peak, the site where a UNITED AIRLINES DC-6 CRASHED on 24 August 1951. The hike started at about 10:45 a.m., and we finished the hike at about 3:30 p.m. There was a total elevation gain of 2,125 feet; 21 hikers participated in the hike. The leader of this hike was Jane Ohgami.
